SOUTH STREET MINISTRIES

South Street Ministries is a group of individuals who are committed to living, serving, and loving on the Summit Lake Community through a variety of programs including (but not limited to) urban gardening, bike shop, The Front Porch cafe, church services, summer camp, after school tutoring, and open gym. Their mission is “unlikely partners taking shared risks to renew our community for Christ’s sake.” The Front Porch Cafe is a great way to support South Street and the Summit Lake/South Akron Community. The Front Porch is used as a meeting place for the community as well as a job training center for those coming from reentry programs. They have excellent food and welcome anyone who wants to eat breakfast or lunch (Monday-Friday 7:00am-3:00pm).

WAYS TO GIVE

South Street has monetary and physical ways that individuals, families, and life groups can contribute to the work they are doing in Summit Lake including their regular programming and finishing The Front Porch Project. Opportunities to Serve

South Street provides after school support for youth and teens through tutoring and homework help. They also offer tutoring opportunities through most of their sports programming. Studio is an opportunity for young women to gather together, talk with mentors, design jewelry and step into womanhood. At Studio, young ladies are able to share openly and receive love and encouragement.

Individuals and families have the chance to financially support a student who wouldn’t otherwise have the resources to play. These families or individuals then could come alongside that student and build a relationship by attending games and getting to know the kids. South Street also comes alongside these kids to train in them in becoming responsible young men, spiritual formation, and tutoring.

WAYS TO PRAY

1) Pray for the future of South Street Ministries — South Street is praying and planning through the future of how we will minister, love, and serve within our neighborhoods. Pray for God’s guidance and wisdom.

2) Pray for Open Gym. Pray that God will provide tutors and meal providers for the Thursday night gatherings. Pray for the youth that participate, that they would continue to grow and develop in faith and stature.
