URBAN VISION

Urban Vision purposes to share the gospel of Jesus Christ in a holistic approach through Christ centered programs and through meeting the spiritual, emotional, and social needs of the people within the North Akron community. They do this through after school tutoring, Kids Club (pre-k to 5th grade), Explorers (6th-12th grade), On Your Mark preschool, leadership development, and their housing program, Legacies of Success.

WAYS TO GIVE

There are ways that you can contribute to Urban Vision monetarily, either as a one time gift or as a monthly contribution. You can sign up to give here. If you are looking for other ways to contribute to Urban Vision, they need snacks for about 100 kids Monday-Thursday, and for their preschool program, office supplies, and paper products. They also have one time food needs for parties throughout the year, as well as contributing to their Back to School and Christmas Stores. To contribute an item from this list, email Regina Lewis at regina@urbanvisionministry.org

Opportunities to Serve

Urban Vision provides support and education to kids from age 4 through high school. On Your Mark helps 4 year olds prepare for school and seeks to support them educationally, socially, emotionally, and physically. Set on Success (SOS) provides after school support to kids K-12th grade. This support comes in the form of tutoring, elective classes, art, gym, and language. Kids Club is a fun, safe place for kids in the neighborhood to come, hear a Bible story, make a craft, play games, worship time, receive a full dinner, and lots of love and friendship from the adult volunteers.

Maybe you have a gift or skill that you would like to teach. Urban Vision has opportunities for you to use those skills to teach the students who come to Set on Success (SOS)

All year long the kids that come to Urban Vision have the opportunity to “make money.” They are then taught how to save, invest, and wisely spend their urban vision dollars. Two of their opportunities to spend their money come through the Back to School Store and the Christmas Store. This is a really fun day, in which, the youth come and shop for things they need for school, their homes, or presents for family and friends. We have the chance to serve by helping Urban Vision set up the store or by working at the store.

Legacies of Success is focused on revitalizing and stabilizing the North Hill neighborhoods. They strive to not only improve the quality of homes, increase home ownership, but also train the residents to take ownership for their own lives and the well-being of their community. For more information go to Legacies of Success. They are always in need of supplies, financial support, and skilled volunteers who can help with home renovations.

Neighbors Apparel started their business in Urban Vision to utilize the talent found in the community in North Hill by employing women to make apparel and accessories for the American fashion market. They aim to create opportunity for and awareness about the refugee community through fashion. Every purchase you make funds the living wage of the refugee woman who made your product. It’s a great way to follow Jesus’ radical call to love our neighbors, through something as simple as a t-shirt. Check out their website: Neighbors Apparel!
