Jesus has quite the track record for doing amazing things with food. One of the most memorable things he did was feeding over 5000 people with just five loaves of bread and two fish. Why did he feed the crowd? Maybe because he knew that meeting spiritual needs sometimes starts with providing for physical needs.

What’s interesting about this story is what is happening behind the scenes. The disciples asked Jesus, “Lord, how are we going to do this?” And the answer was faithful obedience – from a little boy willing to give up something simple that he had to make something great happen. That’s when a miracle happened with the five loaves of bread and two fish.

Jesus still works today to feed the hungry in the world, and here at Grace Church, we have a beautiful opportunity to experience this as it plays out through Feed My Starving Children. Our original 500,000 meals has been able to grow into a chance to 1 million meals, thanks to an unexpected blessing of resources. However, in order for this to happen, we need each of you to consider stepping up and giving what you have, whether it’s donating or signing up for a packing shift. This is your 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish!

I’m sure the little boy didn’t think he gave much, but God used it to feed many. With this meal pack, when you sign up for a shift, you aren’t just another in a crowd of 5000 volunteers. Your two hands and two hours are a way to step up and give your “lunch” to Jesus.

This matters. You matter. One million meals is fifteen shifts of 360 volunteers, which means that in one two hour shift, each person steps up to contribute about 200 meals to the pack. That may not seem like much, but it’s a faith-filled, obedient response to God’s call to feed the hungry in the world. God’s using YOU!
